You’re a Band Parent!

How can you help the Wekiva High School Marching Mustangs?

We need you to help make your child’s experience a fun and rewarding time with the Wekiva Marching Mustangs. There are many opportunities to help and they range from helping concessions at home games and chaperoning events to hemming uniforms and fixing equipment.  Some must be done at the high school or competitions and others can be done from home.  The added bonus is that you get to make new, adult friends with some very wonderful people who share some of the same passions you do – you kids.

If you are interested in helping the band in some way, please fill out the form below and a band parent will contact you to see how you can contribute during your kids’ time with the band. And don’t forget, volunteering can help you lessen the cost of your child’s band dues as well.  We hope to see you soon!  Thank you for your consideration.

  • IT IS REQUIRED THAT ALL MARCHING BAND STUDENTS MUST GET A PHYSICAL AND AN ECG TO PARTICIPATE IN BAND. The following forms must be completed and returned on registration day or at the start of Band Camp (the forms may be dowloaded and completed forms may be uploaded on the Student Page of this website or your student may bring them on the first day of Band Camp):
    • Physical Form
    • Emergency Authorization Form
    • Participation Form
  • Total Band Fees are $400.00/year (a payment link is at the bottom of this section for your convenience).  We will hold multiple fundraising events in throughout the year to help defray the costs for students.   There are two ways to reduce the fees as follows:
    • $50 reduction for working 3 Home Football games
    • $50 reduction of the overall yearly fee (total band dues for the year become $350 instead of $400) if  your student has a zero balance by October 31, 2024.
  • Uniform jacket, overalls/bibs, shako/hat, 1 pair of shoes, 2 pairs of socks and 2 pairs of gloves are provided by school.  (Additional shoes and gloves are available for a fee.) An alternate uniform of show shirts, shorts, drawstring sports pack, and hat/visor as well as a practice shirt is included as part of the dues.  Students are expected to bring the alternate uniform home to clean between performances.  Parents are responsible for:
    • Additional socks, sun tan lotion, bug spray, and school-approved medicines.
  • Marching season practices are normally Tuesday and Thursday after school from 2:30pm to 6:00pm during marching season. Individual instrument sectionals may be called oas needed.  Depending on the progress of the band through the season, additional rehearsals may be called or cancelled as deemed by the director and will be posted on the Band App.
  • Parents should join the Band App to get up to the date information about the events the band is attending (this is a free app for you smart phone).  Below in the next section is an application to join.  Once approved, you will be sent a link.  Please set up your account through that link.
  • Please go to the student page to view required Band Camp equipment, get forms, and see other FAQs about both band camp and the rest of the band program.

Band Dues

Parents, your student is responsible to pay band dues for each year they participate in band. While the arts department tries to keep them as reasonable as possible, the fees are needed to pay for instrument maintenance, flags, music, entrance fees, buses, uniform cleaning, shoes, gloves, etc. The Band Parent Association works with Mr Petty and Mr McKee to conduct fundraisers throughout the year to help students with their band fees. While we do have to charge these fees, we never want a student to be turned away because they can’t pay the band dues. Please contact Mr Petty if you are experiencing difficulty and need assistance so we can see what assistance is available.
