About Our Program

Wekiva High School has a wide-ranging high school band music progam that includes everyone from beginners to state-level performers.

About Our Band…

Wekiva High School was started in 2007 as a relief school for Apopka High School and Ocoee High School. Our band has been growing since then and we are building a tradition for the students and alumni of this new school. The band has won numerous Superior rankings in Orange County MPA evaluations for Marching Band, Color Guard, Wind Ensemble, Concert Band and Jazz Band. While our program is smaller than our sister schools, it is growing and becoming more competitive. Come join our the Marching Mustangs and see how fun a band program can be!

Our Ensembles

Wekiva High School’s Band Program has many opportunities for students to experience band music in all it’s forms.

Marching Band

Marching Band is comprised of Wind Ensemble, Concert Band, Beginning Band and Colorguard.  Marching season starts at the end of July in Band Camp and extends until the Apopka Christmas Parade in mid-December.

Symphonic Bands
Wind Ensemble

Wind Ensemble is the premier band at Wekiva High School and is comprised primarily of Junior and Seniors. Wind Ensemble students are the top musicians in their sections and have probably been playing their instruments since at least middle school. Some students from this group go on to All County and State Bands.

Concert Band

Concert Band is the intermediate band at Wekiva High School and is comprised mostly of Freshmen and Sophomores.  Concert Band students probably started playing their instrument in Middle School (some may be beginners) and are continuing on in their musical development. A few students from this group go on to All County and State Bands.

Beginning Band

Beginning Band is for students new to the band program. Students will be taught fundamentals of playing their instrument and prepared for promotion to the Concert Band. Beginning Band is a great way to learn about an instrument.

Jazz Band

Jazz Band students comprise students from freshman through senior year.  Many are also in Wind Ensemble and Concert Band.  Students are taught to improvise and explore the jazz genre.

Color Guard

Colorguard students range from freshman through seniors.  They compete and perform with the Marching Band in the Fall to the beginning of December and then compete in indoor competitions without the band for the remainder of the year.
